24MW ICP Connection and BoP capability in West Scotland
Starting in Q2 of 2022 Energy 101 were afforded an opportunity to once again work with one of the UK’s leading EPC contractors, Smith Brothers Contracting. This most recent opportunity required Energy 101 to provide Project Engineering Management support to deliver a complex ICP connection and the delivery of a bespoke Balance of Plant [BoP] solution.
To allow connection into the local SPEN 33kV network, a 12.5km dual circuit cable route was required between Point of Connection [PoC] and Point of Supply [PoS]. The cable route itself necessitated the completion of 10-in-number Horizontal Directional Drills [HDD] to traverse a number of challenging obstacles, the vast majority of which was in public carriageway. Stakeholder management was a key attribute in ensuring the successful delivery of this considerable undertaking with the cable route itself being completed and ready for testing in the middle of Q2 2023.
Delivery of the BoP scheme included the integration of co-located generation capabilities [wind & solar] and client facility load management support. This itself required the challenging management of various different stakeholders with competing priorities and conflicting delivery methods.
